Rethinking High School: It’s About Who They Become and How They Stand Out
Mar 07, 2025Dear Parents,
I often hear students say, “I studied so hard and took challenging courses—but I still didn’t get into an Ivy League school. I wasted all of that time.” These words echo the frustrations of trying to simply meet an unwritten expectation. Instead of just strategically complying by taking AP classes, I encourage our students to focus on developing a Stand Out Project—an initiative that highlights their unique abilities, independent thinking, and true passion.
High school isn’t just about accumulating credits or following a predetermined path. It’s an opportunity for our children to become self-motivated thinkers who tackle challenges on their own. Colleges are increasingly prioritizing students who demonstrate initiative—those who have pursued a project that reflects their individuality and problem-solving skills without being told exactly what to do. This is the kind of journey that not only enriches their learning but also sets them apart from peers who might simply check the AP box.
To help make this vision a reality, we offer brainstorming sessions designed to inspire students to create their own unique projects. Whether your child is passionate about science, art, community service, or another field, we can guide them in developing a project that truly stands out—without relying on a setup by parents or costly, pre-packaged solutions.
Together, we can help our students embrace their true potential and build a future that’s defined not just by college acceptance, but by the impact they make on the world.
Warm regards, Kelly
