They don't need to know their major yet —But this matters NOW
Mar 03, 2026One of the most common things I hear from parents of younger high school students is:
“They don’t know what they want to do yet — and that’s okay.” And you’re right. They don’t need to know their major today.
But here’s what does matter now:
They need exposure.
Every year, I work with college freshmen who come home during spring break saying:
“I hate my major.”
“I don’t think this is the right school.”
“I feel lost.”
Those moments don’t come from lack of intelligence — they come from lack of exploration. Most students can name maybe 8–10 careers. There are hundreds.
Without early exposure, kids don’t choose — they default. Our goal early on isn’t to decide.
It’s to eliminate, clarify interests, and build direction — before college becomes an expensive guessing game.
Schedule a consult with your child to see if they do need support to make the best decision
